Over 120 developers gathered at W3.Hub in Berlin to participate in the Cardano Hackathon hosted by NMKR and ignite a wave of blockchain innovation. This event not only highlighted groundbreaking ideas but also provided the perfect platform for Midnight's innovative technology and engagement in the community.

Hackathon overview

Where: W3.Hub in Berlin

When: Jul 26, 2024 - Jul 27, 2024

URL: Hackathon Link

Participants: 120+ developers divided into 3 main tracks:

  • Zero-Knowledge Proofs (ZKP) - Midnight Track
  • Transparency in Governance Systems
  • Open Track for Moonshots

Each track provided developers with the opportunity to delve into blockchain challenges and explore innovative solutions that could reshape the industry.

During the hackathon, Midnight's track drew in developers eager to apply their skills to real-world scenarios, focusing on a platform that prioritizes privacy, security, and compliance.

Teams showcased their visions for data protection DApps and elaborated on their projects to a panel of expert judges. These judges provided real-time feedback, helping developers fine-tune their ideas. Some of the explored use cases included:

  • A DApp for managing the KYC process in different organizations
  • A DApp focused on protecting whistleblowers and allowing for a more secure system for raising complaints and alerts
  • A system that allows salespeople to share securely their working history with prospective employers
  • A Telegram app that allows users to sell their chat history to companies that want to train AI models

Spotlight on the winning team

The winners of Midnight’s track were Team Crescent, a team formed by Vito Melchionna, Luis Mendez, Andreas Sosilo, and Aaron Schmid.

Their project, Crescent, was created to facilitate the KYC process that countless organizations must follow daily.

In the short amount of time they had, Team crescent was able to create a streamlined UI for users to complete the KYC process, and a view for companies to manage verified users. This was accomplished by using Compact to connect the Lace wallet to validate transactions on the Midnight network and using zero-knowledge proofs to prove validated customer information, creating faster processing and KYC approvals.
