Following the launch of the Midnight network earlier this year, a series of ecosystem partners and integrations are building the pathway to rational privacy and accessibility through abstraction. Abstraction is a design process that shifts complex technical mechanics to background systems, leaving simple interfaces that focus entirely on the essential features for users.
The user experience on most blockchains is complex with too many hurdles for users to overcome. Typically, interacting with smart contracts forces you to manually set up wallets, manage private keys, store seed phrases, and purchase tokens to pay gas costs.
Abstraction shifts this technical workload away from the user, delegating complex tasks to background infrastructure and DApps.
This blog follows a potential user journey across the Midnight ecosystem, showing how partner integrations abstract many of the complex backend mechanics to create a smooth and accessible user experience.
Rapid onboarding with Dynamic
Learning to use a new DApp typically requires installing specialized browser extensions, generating private keys, recording seed phrases, and acquiring native network tokens to fund initial setup transactions. This onboarding is slow and clunky, and appears unreasonable to the average internet user who expects simple and instant access to everything.
Tools from Dynamic (recently acquired by Fireblocks) allow application creators to build Midnight wallets directly into their software, making wallet creation completely invisible to you. Instead of setting up a wallet beforehand, you sign in to an application using a standard email address or social account. The application logs you in immediately and handles everything else in the background.
Behind the scenes, Dynamic automatically configures three things for you: an unshielded address for public transfers, a shielded address for private transfers, and a DUST interface for transaction cost tracking. You can sign in through a familiar login sequence and interact with the Midnight network immediately.

Cross-chain messaging with VIA Labs
Moving tokens between different blockchains can be one of the most stressful experiences in blockchain ecosystems. On most networks, bridging forces you to hunt for a bridge application, figure out if you need to swap through various other tokens, and verify whether you are receiving the real asset or a wrapped IOU token that requires additional conversion steps. A single mistake during route selection can leave funds stuck or drained by unexpected network fees.
VIA Labs addresses this complexity through its cross-chain messaging protocol. Smart contracts on different networks communicate with each other, allowing developers to build DApps that:
- Move stablecoins and other assets across networks for DeFi, including trading, lending, and payments.
- Enable agentic transfers, letting AI agents move assets and trigger DeFi actions across chains under rules set by users.
- Use external data in smart contracts, including price feeds, business records, and information from other blockchains.
- Extend Midnight’s privacy to other networks by verifying information privately and sharing only the result with another DApp.
For example, this infrastructure allows you to transfer assets like USDM (Moneta's 1:1 USD-backed stablecoin on Cardano) directly to the Midnight network. USDM provides you with a predictable asset to trade, lend, or pay counterparties while benefiting from Midnight’s privacy-enhancing technology.

VIA Labs also enables DUST generation on Midnight directly from NIGHT held on Cardano. Designating a Midnight DUST address maps your Cardano NIGHT holdings to a DUST public key, starting DUST resource generation without any need to move your tokens between the networks.

Simplify transaction management
Handling transaction costs on the network should not require constant manual intervention. Midnight gives developers and users flexible pathways for managing transaction costs, depending on the type of application or specific in-app actions:
- Developer-led abstraction: Developers can sponsor fees directly or accept alternative tokens through the Capacity Exchange, creating an onboarding experience similar to web2 for new users.
- For anyone who wants to use the DUST resource generated from holding NIGHT, Midnight software wallets make the process effortless.
Wallets like 1AM (a dedicated Midnight application built by Webisoft) and Gero Wallet (a multi-chain Cardano wallet with card integration) handle DUST generation as well as more advanced functionality.
Power transactions with DUST
Running out of gas tokens mid-transaction is a constant headache on standard networks. When your gas balance drops to zero, your transaction stalls, forcing you to stop what you are doing, open an exchange, buy more gas tokens, and transfer them back to your wallet before trying again.
Midnight separates the capital asset (NIGHT) from the resource used to pay for network transactions (DUST). Holding NIGHT generates DUST automatically inside your wallet, providing you with the resource to power transactions without any additional steps required to fund transactions.
Behind the scenes, 1AM and Gero track fuel generation automatically. The wallet interface reads your accumulated DUST balance and applies it to pay for network fees in the background, eliminating manual gas claims, minting steps, or exchange trades.

Send shielded transactions
Public blockchains broadcast your complete financial history to the world. Anyone with your public address can view your total balance, past transactions, and counterparty details.
Gero and 1AM make sending a private transaction as simple as sending a standard transfer. You enter the recipient address, enter the amount, and send.
Developer-led abstraction with the Capacity Exchange
On most blockchains, the transaction costs paid in native tokens create a massive onboarding bottleneck. The Capacity Exchange, developed by Sundae Labs, removes this requirement entirely.
Midnight transaction costs use the DUST resource, but you do not need to hold NIGHT or DUST to interact with an application. DApps can use their own DUST reserves to sponsor your transaction costs through DUST sponsorship.
Alternatively, the Capacity Exchange allows people to pay for transactions with tokens they already have like USDM, which can be automatically used to sponsor DUST costs behind the scenes:

For users, this means a simple experience when using DApps. DUST transaction costs can be sponsored and disappear for the user, or costs can be paid using whatever assets are most convenient.
Swap on decentralized exchanges
Trading tokens on decentralized exchanges often fails because of unpredictable gas costs. If network traffic spikes while you trade, your transaction could fail, costs might suddenly spike, or fees may be consumed without executing the swap.
Decentralized exchanges across the Midnight ecosystem (including GalaxySwap, CSWAP DEX, and Fluid Tokens) integrate Midnight's dual-component model directly into their trading contracts. You swap tokens without holding a separate wallet balance for gas fees. Transactions are paid with DUST, meaning you never have to spend your capital asset (NIGHT) to transact on the network.
View activity with Dune
