The Midnight Foundation is dedicated to growing the Midnight network and supporting its global community. Advancing this mission requires a deep understanding of the community's needs, from developers building tools to users seeking to protect their digital freedom. The annual community survey is an essential resource for gaining this insight.
Feedback from the survey ensures the network’s development is guided by its users. This collaborative process helps to ensure Midnight is genuinely open and accessible, contributing to a more fair and decentralized internet.
The second annual community survey is now open for participation: complete the community survey now.
The value of community feedback
Direct feedback provides a clear map of the ecosystem's participants. For example, the previous community survey identified a mix of experienced users (39%), users with some familiarity (46%), and newcomers (15%). This data guided the development of educational content and developer resources tailored to different levels of expertise.
The survey also showed that builders constitute a significant and growing segment of the community, and there is a specific section of this year’s survey to address areas that can help supercharge the builder experience.
Another key finding was the persistent challenge that persists across most digital spaces: the "privacy paradox," where a stated user preference for privacy often conflicts with online behavior. This gap frequently exists because available tools for protecting data are complex or difficult to use. Midnight is designed to address this through programmable privacy, which enables the creation of tools that are accessible for builders and intuitive for users. The current survey includes specific questions about the types of data users want to protect, gathering direct input that informs the development of rational privacy solutions.
Some questions in this year's survey are consistent with the last one to track how the community's perspectives and needs evolve as the network grows. New questions have been added to inform concrete decisions on the resources, tools, and support offered in the period leading up to mainnet launch and beyond.
Community shapes the network
A blockchain protocol is defined by its technical implementation, but a network is defined by its community. The behavior, interactions, and collective goals of its participants are what shape its evolution and determine its utility. The development of Midnight is a collaborative process, and input from users, builders, and prospective participants is essential for its success.
This survey aims to identify opportunities for community growth and enhanced support, including:
- Barriers to the adoption of decentralized applications.
- The importance of online data privacy to users.
- The tools and resources that simplify development in Web3.
- The most valuable information and resources across the current ecosystem.
The aggregated, anonymized findings will be shared publicly to benefit the entire ecosystem.
The survey requires approximately 5-10 minutes to complete. Initial findings will be published later this year, with detailed analysis distributed across all Midnight channels.
